It all began, almost a decade and an half ago, at the Vision Foundation of India (VFI). An individual's vision, resoluteness of desire, and a single-minded perseverance in making the Institute a world class centre for comprehensive eye care. That individual is Dr. Kulin Kothari, the renowned ophthalmic surgeon with more than twenty five years of dedicated practice behind him, and the present Managing Trustee of VFI.

VFI currently operates from its prime affiliate which houses in a single centre with modern and technologically advanced top end facilities and equipment, for diagnosis, treatment and care. There is also an affiliated centre at Vashi which helps the residents of Navi Mumbai district to avail the best ophthalmic care. The doctors are all experienced specialists in various different sub-specialties and are the very best in their chosen field.

The Medical departments encompass General Ophthalmology, Cataract Services, Squint and Paediatric Ophthalmology, Oculoplastic Surgeries, Neuro Ophthalmologic Services, Vision Correction Services incorporating Lasik Surgeries, Glaucoma, Retina and Cornea & Contact Lens Services.

The administration and support team comprises of Receptionists, Optometrist, Nurses, Telephone operators, Accounts staff, Supervisors and the Administrator.

The institute also functions as an academy for educational activities, for the ophthalmic fraternity, general practitioners, postgraduate students and ophthalmic assistants. Research activities include the study, review and analysis of a myriad recorded procedures and surgeries. This gives VFI a rare insight and edge also into complicated and unusual cases.

In short, the sheer range of skills, expertise, experience and facilities characterizes the Institute.
